Singer Beverley Craven to perform in Ashford at Find a Voice's Spring Ball

A spring ball in aid of an Ashford charity promises to be a night to remember.

Brit award winning singer Beverley Craven will perform for guests at the Ashford International Hotel, in Simone Weil Avenue, on Saturday, April 23.

The night has been organised by Find a Voice (FAV), a charity that helps people with speech or communication difficulties.

Ms Craven, best known for her 1991 UK Top 5 hit single Promise Me, has sold over four million records in her career.

Influenced by Elton John, Stevie Wonder and Kate Bush, she has released five albums, including Beverley Craven, Love Scenes and Mixed Emotions.

In March 2009, Craven released her first album in 10 years, Close To Home, fully written and produced by herself, and then in 2014 she released Change of Heart.

FAV president Alastair Dutch said: “She is still very relevant. Looking on her website, her tour dates are all sold out.

“When you speak to people they all say ‘Oh yeah I’ve got one of her CDs’

“The tickets are selling really well too, already 100 have gone.”

As well as the performance by Ms Craven, who survived breast cancer in 2006, the evening will include drinks on arrival, a three course dinner and a disco.

There will also be an auction on the night – which will include the sale of an original painting depicting Second World War song Kiss me Goodnight Sergeant Major.

The painting has been donated by friend of the charity and D Day Veteran George Batts.

Tickets for the evening cost £50 each, or £450 for a group of 10 people.

Ellis Jones, from the charity, said: “Find a Voice does not receive government funding and therefore relies totally on grants, donations and fundraising.

“These funds enable us to continue supporting people with severe speech and communication needs by providing training, equipment and social clubs.”

The charity is also looking for raffle prizes for the event. To book, call 01233 640443 or email admin@findavoice.org.uk.
