Young man injured in road crash

A 20-year-old man was taken to hospital after a collision between a car and van on the A28 at Chartham, near Canterbury, this afternoon.

The accident happened just before 3pm and led to the closure of the Ashford Road at the junction with Shalmsford Street for about one hour.

The victim was taken to the William Harvey Hospital but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Kent Air Ambulance was also called but was not needed. There were no other injuries but the accident follows two fatalities in as many weeks on the road.

Earlier this month St Anselm’s School pupil Andrew Key, 16, died after being hit by a car while walking along the A28 at Thanington.

Last Wednesday a 32-year-old motorcyclist from Ashford was killed after colliding with another motorbike on the same road between Chartham and Thanington.
