SAM SODJE, the former Margate central defender, is set to make his full Charlton debut when the Addicks visit League 1 Luton Town for tonight's Carling Cup, third round tie at Kenilworth Road.

Sodje, signed on a season-long loan from Premier League Reading, made his debut for the Addicks as a late substitute in last Tuesday's 2-0 home win against Norwich. He is likely to partner Patrick McCarthy at the heart of the defence as manager Alan Pardew makes wholesale changes from the side that beat Leicester 2-0 on Saturday.

Pardew confirmed that he will rest his new central partnership of Madjid Bougherra and Jonathan Fortune plus full-backs Danny Mills and Chris Powell. Midfielders Andy Reid and Jose Semedo will also sit out the tie.

"I need to protect this team because the priority is promotion," said Pardew. "But the Luton tie presents an opportunity for the squad players to tell me that they deserve to play."
