The money raised in last year’s Boxing Day Dip has helped two Deal charities.

Organisers Deal Icebreakers held a presentation night at The Alma in West Street, Deal, on Friday to hand the funds out.

Cheques for £1269.60 were given to the two chosen charities - Deal and District Strokes and Deal Breast Feeding Support Group.

Organiser of Deal Breast Feeding Support Group, Candice Roberts, said: “We are grateful. The money will be re-invested into the group and the local community.”

The night was attended by a selection of the 200 people who took part, as well as the Red Cross, who came from Canterbury and the Coastguard.

Member Ken Buxley gave out mugs and certificates to those who had been involved, including Cllr Wayne Elliot and Adrian Friend.

Main organiser Margaret Edwards said: “The presentation was absolutely fantastic.

“I’d like to thank The Alma who allowed us to use the pub.”

Mrs Edwards has also thanked The Popup Cafe who raised £279 on the day serving refreshments to spectators in exchange for donations.

The annual event has raised around £100,000 for local good causes in the 33 years it has been running.

She said: “I just hope everyone comes along again this year. Without their help we couldn’t do it. It does a lot of good in the town and that’s what we’re about.”

She has already got her permit for this year’s dip and has asked any small Deal groups who’d like to be a chosen charity to write to: Deal Icebreakers, 12 Trinity Place, Deal, Kent, CT14 9HH.
