Pets can lodge in the lap of luxury

BRITAIN is known as a nation of animal lovers and a Kent kennels has taken this idea firmly to heart.

The Wyncot Boarding Kennels and Cattery has installed four-poster beds, televisions, radios and a host of other luxuries to ensure its four-legged lodgers feel right at home.

The kennels at Hastingleigh is owned and run by David McCallam. The animals in his care can enjoy CD players, radios, videos and even individually heated and insulated apartments.

This pet pampering might seem over the top but Mr McCallam says there is a method to the madness.

"Many cats and dogs are house pets, used to day-to-day sounds of the radio and television and the comfort of their owners’ beds."

Mr also argues his approach is safer for the animals.

"To make them feel at home in a strange environment, and reduce stress, anxiety and health problems, it seemed obvious to offer them the comforts of home."

Now Mr McCallam’s theory is proving to be a business success as well as a hit with pets and pet owners.

"I searched high and low for more than a year for a business opportunity to allow me to use my wealth of experience in animal care.

"Every day there are more houses being built in east Kent and more people moving in; which is vital for my success. Combine this with the area’s European links and the absolutely beautiful landscape, then I have both business and pleasure on my doorstep.

"To my customers, and to me, the animals in my care are not just pets they are members of the family."
