Seacats claim increased share

HOVERSPEED, operator of cross-Channel Seacats, says it has defied the tourist downturn by grabbing market share. While the overall market share has dipped by around 7.5 per cent in the wake of the September 11 terrorist outrages, Hoverspeed said it had gained between one and two per cent.

The operator is increasing peak season frequency, with up to 17 return sailings - 15 on its Dover-Calais route and two on its Dover-Ostend service - compared to 13 last year. Hoverspeed has also introduced an "at your seat" meal and drinks service for all, not just first class passengers.

Company spokesman Nick Stevens said: "It does seem that the service we have been providing and upgrading is something that people can sign up to because they get the speed and new level of service."
