AN ENTHUSIASTIC youngster had to be rescued by firemen after getting his arm stuck in a letter box.

Kallum Bridges, from Gillingham, was playing with his new toy space shuttle when he got in a spot of bother.

While taking it on an adventure around the universe, the journey took the shuttle into a black hole, otherwise known as the letterbox in the front door of his home.

And when Kallum tried to rescue his shuttle from an inter galactic disaster, he found himself caught up in one of his own.

The four-year-old's two brothers, five-year-old Lewis and six-year-old Joshua, had been to the Science Museum in London on a school trip and brought Kallum back the shuttle as a present.

Keen to test out his new toy, the trio raced round the hallway, pushing the toy back and forth through the letter box.

But disaster struck when Kallum tried to retrieve the shuttle from inside, pushing his arm through the slit from outside.

After a bit of squirming, he realised he had got stuck, and his brothers alerted their mum Tanya.

As an ambulance driver, she knew it wasn't going to be an easy job getting Kallum free, so called the fire brigade.

Crews arrived at 5.30pm on Wednesday and set to work.

They took 15 minutes to ease him out, because he had twisted his arm round, struggling to get out.

His dad David, an account manager for Eurostar, said: "I got home from work and wondered what an earth was going on.

"It looked like an A&E convention with a fire engine and ambulance outside the house.

"I was a bit worried when I got there but when I saw what had happened, it was very funny.

"Poor little Kallum felt a bit silly afterwards, but he's okay now."
