A councillor has resigned less than two weeks after being elected.

David Craggs became the Conservative councillor for Medway's River ward on Thursday, August 12.

But the council announced today he has stood down and that another election will be held in about a month.

The reason for the resignation of Mr Cragg, also the head teacher of Gad's Hill School, is unknown.

He won the seat in a by-election prompted by the resignation of Labour's Bill Esterson, who stood down after being chosen as MP for Sefton Central on Merseyside in the general election.
