Two have lucky escape from building blaze

One person has been rescued and another escaped a building fire in Margate.

The blaze broke out shortly after 8am this morning in Beatrice Road.

Around 15 firefighters from Margate, Thanet (Westwood) and Broadstairs were called to the property.

Some wore breathing apparatus because of dense smoke on the first floor.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said one person had been given first aid and oxygen at the scene, although the extent of the casualty's injuries is not yet known.

The fire, which was extinguished within 45 minutes, happened close to the town's Victoria traffic lights and caused major disruption for rush hour drivers in the area.
