Victorian grammars may be rebuilt on same site

Two of the county's oldest grammar schools may be rebuilt as single sex schools on one site under the Building Schools for the Future programme.

Governors stress that "amalgamation is categorically not the case" for Chatham House and Clarendon House, both in Ramsgate, but say they are considering a Local Education Authority proposal to co-locate on a campus on the current Chatham House site.

A statement issued by both sets of governors says: "The two schools would remain as separate entities, retaining both their individual strengths and traditions.

"We are currently discussing various co-operation options but no decision has yet been taken."
