CHARLTON manager Alan Pardew believes Rob Styles should be struck from the list of weekend referee appointments following his performance in Tuesday's 2-1 home defeat by Plymouth in which 10 players were cautioned.

What incensed Pardew was the Hampshire official’s failure to take action on the challenge from behind by Plymouth central defender Kris Timar on Charlton striker Svestoslav Todorov, which has put the Bulgarian international out for the rest of the season.

Todorov was carried off on a stretcher with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament and small fracture of a knee. The appearance was probably his last for Charlton as he was playing on a one-year contract.

Pardew, who confronted Styles on the pitch at the end of the game, said: "When I spoke to Rob Styles at the final whistle, he told me that he didn’t think the tackle was that bad.

"That just about summed up his game. After that performance, Rob Styles should not be refereeing this weekend. That's down to the assessor. It’s an issue we have to face.

"If you’re a player and give a bad performance you get left out. And if you’re a manager and performances are bad over 10 games you get the sack."

Pardew added: "This injury has robbed us of our most gifted, technical striker. I bought him to the club because he has the ability to unlock the kind of defensive doors we found ourselves hammering on against Plymouth.

"To lose him after 20 minutes on Tuesday was a blow, to lose him for the rest of the season is an even bigger blow."
