PENNOCK: "We are full of confidence and can't wait for the game"

Welling v Grays

WELLING manager Adrian Pennock is looking for his team to pull off another surprise result in Conference South this weekend.

The Wings raised a few eyebrows with a 3-0 defeat of Weymouth last Saturday and Pennock has set his sights on visitors Grays.

However, it will not be easy against the full-time leaders, who have won their last six league matches and lead the table by 14 points.

Pennock said: "The nice thing about last Saturday was that no-one expected us to get a result at Weymouth.

"It’s the same for us this week with Grays but you never know what might happen in football. Grays are scoring goals for fun but we are full of confidence and can’t wait for the game.

"We’ve only won one game, however, and we have to keep our heads and not go too crazy about it."

Welling will be without midfielder Matt Lovell, who returned to Gravesend after the Conference club refused to extend his one-month loan spell.

"We would have loved to have kept him but it wasn’t an option," said Pennock. "He had his best game for us at Weymouth and I was delighted with his goal."

Pennock has completed the signing of Ashley Probets, who was released by Rochdale before Christmas. Probets had been on trial with Crawley and Grays.
