WELLING'S revival came to an abrupt end as they lunged nearer the relegation zone in losing at home to struggling Maidenhead on Saturday.

The Wings could have been behind as early as the fifth minute but Emmanuel Williams fluffed a simple chance after an error by keeper Jamie Turner.

Welling responded with their best spell of the game, striker Charles Ademeno saw his effort tipped over before Chris Moore prodded the ball wide from the resulting corner.

On loan Gillingham striker Andy Pugh had an effort disallowed for offside before Ademeno also failed to hit the target from close range.

The Wings fell behind eight minutes before the break when sloppy defending left Williams one on one with Leon Solomon and he produced a classy finish.

Welling player-manager Neil Smith saw his far post header cleared off the line two minutes before half-time but that was as close as the Wings came to getting back in the game.

Maidenhead, who had only won two league games prior to the match, sealed their victory just 10 miuntes into the second half when Dwayne Lee finished off a counter-attacking move.
