Maidstone flies green flag

Maidstone’s Clare Park and Whatman Park have won Green Flag awards for the next 12 months to denote being among the best in the country.

Cllr John A.Wilson, Maidstone council’s cabinet member for community and leisure services, said: "I’m absolutely delighted; the flags give a clear message to visitors and residents that we take pride in our parks. The awards are a national recognition for the achievements of all those whose hard work has created these fantastic places for all to enjoy."

Whatman Park, which is part of the Maidstone Millennium River Park, has been awarded the green flag for the third year running.

It includes a modern sculpture, wildlife and pond dipping areas.

Clare Park has won the award for the fifth consecutive year.

It houses tennis courts, a bowls green and a wildlife area within its parkland setting

The award is judged on behalf of Keep Britain Tidy by a panel of experts.
