It is believed the former military facility is being used as a location for Pennyworth, a spin-off of the Batman franchise which concerns the origin story of Bruce Wayne's butler Alfred Pennyworth.

The show, which is currently in production for its second series, stars Jack Bannon from The Imitation Game and pop star Paloma Faith.

The story follows Pennyworth in his life as a former special forces soldier living in London in the 1960s.

It is made for Warner Bros by a company called Primrose Hill Productions and features on American cable channel Epix.

Parts of the first series were filmed at Chatham Historic Dockyard, which has also been a filming location for other shows include Call the Midwife and blockbuster films including Les Miserables and The Aeronauts.

A security guard at the site confirmed crews were there filming today.

A resident of Lodge Hill Lane, who did not wish to be named, said: "The toilets arrived on Friday morning at 5am.

"There's been stretch limos, lorries containing changing rooms.

"We have seen cars coming park and lorries coming past all day."

Lodge Hill and Chattenden Barracks were originally used to store magazines and house officers in the late 1800s.

In the 1960s, the use was converted to facilitate training for the Royal School of Military Engineering in Brompton, and was later home to the Joint Service Bomb Disposal School.

In 2016, ownership of the site was transferred from the Ministry of Defence to Homes England.

A spokesman for Homes England said: “Commercial filming is currently taking place at Lodge Hill in Chattenden.

"Requests to film on our land are considered on a case-by-case basis, in line with our policy on managing assets in our portfolio.”
