Girl stuck up a tree in Strood

by Lynn Cox

A young girl ended up stuck up a tree after a branch she used to climb up snapped before she could get down.

The 12-year-old who has not been named, climbed the 40ft tree in Penguin Close, yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon.

She was stuck for about an hour before friends ran to her home and alerted her mother who dialed 999.

A crew from Strood fire station were called out to rescue her at about 3.35pm.

A spokesman said: “Because the branch had snapped she couldn’t lower herself down.

“After a while she began to get cold and couldn’t feel her legs any more, she was frightened.

“Two firefighters went up to the tree tops on the vehicle’s platform and got the girl down.

“Because she was so cold and had been up the tree for a long time, she was taken to hospital by paramedics to get checked over.

“It’s never a good idea to climb that far up at tree, it’s very dangerous.
