Quadriplegic sailor Hilary Lister is making good progress with her solo sailing tour round the British Isles.

Hilary, 35, from Dunkirk, left Dover on Monday afternoon and arrived at her first stopover, Eastbourne Marina, at 11.55pm.

She set off from Eastbourne at around 12.30pm on Tuesday and arrived at Brighton Marina at 7.10pm.

There she and her team were given a reception by local Lions Club members.

After a rest day Hilary sets off on Thursday for her next destination, Chichester.

It is expected to take her three to four months to complete the trip using only her breath to steer.

Her state of the art boat, the Artemis Tindar, has been specially designed for her and she will be supported on land by Lions Club members throughout her journey.

Hilary, who is able only to move her head, eyes and mouth, will sail the North Sea, Irish Sea, and English Channel as well as the Caledonian Canal using a sip and puff device.

Each day her support team will record her finishing latitude and longitude from her GPS, so they can tow her back to exactly the same point the next sailing day.

Hilary has previously set two world records by being the first quadriplegic to sail solo across the English Channel in 2005 and the first female quadriplegic to solo circumnavigate the Isle of Wight in 2007.

Through her trip she hopes to raise funds for Hilary’s Dream Trust, a charity that tries to help people with disabilities or significant disadvantages realise their sailing dreams.
