The 31-year-old Conservative represented Queenborough and Halfway on Swale council and had been elected to represent Sheppey on Kent County Council in May 2021.

Many believed he was being lined up as a parliamentary candidate for Sittingbourne and Sheppey to succeed MP Gordon Henderson.

Following his death Mr Henderson told KentOnline: "This has come as a tremendous shock to my parliamentary team and me.

"Cameron worked very closely with us on a number of issues affecting Sheppey and helped resolve the problems of so many people on the Island.

"On a personal level, I will not only miss Cameron’s invaluable help, sound advice, and common sense but also his loyalty and friendship.

"Cameron was an outstanding councillor who always put Sheppey’s residents before party politics. He will be sorely missed by many people, particularly his family to whom I would like to extend my heartfelt condolences."

More than 100 people attended a candlelit vigil for Cllr Beart on January 23.

Friends of his attended Queenborough Park to show their love and respect for Cameron's dedication to the Sheppey community.

Today Swale Council confirmed that his funeral will be held on Tuesday March 7 at 2pm at the Garden of England Crematorium.

Following the service there will be a reception at Minster Working Men's Club where all are welcome.
