Key Stage 2 began the day with an assembly about the origins of the war which was acted out by pupils from Oasis Academy Isle of Sheppey and members of Big Fish Arts.

Years 3 and 4 then had a workshop with Animation Arts where two people dressed up as carrier pigeons to tell the story of how letters were sent home from the front.

The youngsters wrote their own messages which were then collected at the end.

History coordinator Tracey Parker said: “The children thoroughly enjoyed it.”

A display of finished work and photos of the commemoration is to be given to Minster Abbey.
