Partial collapse of first floor iron balcony at Augusta Road, Ramsgate

Part of a balcony collapsed in a town centre today.

It ended up overhanging a walkway below in Ramsgate before firefighters made the scene safe.

An iron balcony of 10ft by 2ft had partially come away from the first floor of a property.

It happened at Augusta Road, Ramsgate, and firefighters were called out at 9.39am.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “Using a height vehicle as a crane, crews were able to remove the section of balcony and lower it to a safe location.

“The building was made safe and duty of care was handed over to the owner of the building.

“The cause of the balcony collapse isn’t known and there were no reported injuries.”

Fire crews were at the scene until exactly 11.25am.
